Zhu Bing’s work does not aim at narration, rather it focuses on and captures moments that become self-sufficient, absolute. They originate from fugitive impressions, inner feelings (a sort of existential malaise he knows so well that they have become good friends), strongly subjective and unusual perceptions of life and the world. They uncover a complex, sophisticated interiority. Taking advantage of a great skill in using the brush, that digs voluptuously into the full range of the painting’s language, he generates images that may be disquieting. However, in their apparent immediacy (in actual fact they have been thought and worked over many times), they embody subtle sensations, metaphorically referring to displacements rooted in a disenchanted vision of life. The refined, unusual and extremely rich choice of colors and the very unique vision of the artist go together to create images of original poetic expression. There may be melancholia, nostalgia, restlessness, sadness, even despair, because these are the very feelings that inspire poetry. Feelings that, originating from the depth of the soul, accompany us gently during this ‘terrestrial transit’, thus enabling us to discover and savor exquisite nuances that no fanfare, no bandstand, no flaunted optimism would be able to even suggest.
