Gallery MC, founded 2014 in Shenzhen, China, is a professional organization dedicated to discovering and recommending outstanding contemporary art of the world. As the Chinese version of its name – meicheng – suggests, the Gallery pursues beauty and works to make it possible, and, in a modest attitude, develops itself in this coastal city of Shenzhen and takes part in promoting the persistent and healthy development of China’s contemporary art market by putting up a platform for exhibitions, forums, lectures and professional art advisory, the last service of which is designed for collectors, companies and professionals.

With noted curator Monica Dematté as academic advisor, Gallery MC, since its foundation, has launched a number of group exhibitions or case-study projects of individual artists, including “STEINHOLT: Photographs by Christopher Taylor” (2017), “Zhongjie, Xiaoshu and Mountains – Pan Tao Solo Exhibition” (2017), “TI RIGUARDA: Dipinti Di Pierluca Cetera” (2018), “In My View” (2018), “I Am Here” (2019), and “A Cool Wood and a Quiet Ravine” (2020); and worked with many artists such as Fang Yuxuan, Mirco Tarci, Christopher Taylor, Su Hua, Pierluca Cetera, Pan Jian, Pan Tao, Wang Zhongjie, Zhu Bing, Zhang Yu and Zhang Jinhui, etc.

Academic Advisor

Monica Dematte was born 7 October 1962 in Trento, Italy. After graduating from the G. Prati High School in Trento, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the School of Arts, Music and Drama at the University of Bologna and qualifications as an Italian Art Teacher. She came to China in 1986 and studied Chinese art history and art criticism at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts from 1988 to 1989. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Genoa in 1995, with a dissertation titled “Chinese Contemporary Art from 1989 to 1994”. In 1990, 1991 and 1992, she produced three documentaries on Chinese contemporary art. From 1996 to 1997, she was a curator at the Singapore Art Museum and a teacher of Chinese culture and art at the Department of Oriental Languages at the University of Bologna and the Department of Oriental Art at the University of Venice. In 1999 and 2001, she worked for two editions of Venice Biennale and wrote a series of review articles for the exhibition album. Since 1994, she has been curating exhibitions of Chinese and foreign artists independently.
