The dozen small paintings were created when I was in Beijing. Like those larger paintings, they are expressions of something other than the ‘formal’ subject matter. As I have been changing my studio frequently, these paintings are kept at my friend’s place and have not been officially exhibited in China. There are some other paintings that I painted in Berlin earlier this year, and I am now displaying them here as a meeting with everyone in Shenzhen. In the 1990s, I became more fascinated by ” Conceptual ” art. After living in Germany, I slowly realised that it was better for me to observe and make works based on my feelings, to put my body into the actual scene, and that the meticulousness of the studio did not belong to me. This is the only way for me to move forward.
